lead, <a href=\"https:\/\/news.samsung.com\/us\/enter-new-era-of-mobile-ai-samsung-galaxy-s24-series\/\" target=\"_blank\">unveiling the new Galaxy S24 series<\/a> and becoming the first brand to hit the market with an AI smartphone. To get there first, Samsung took a shortcut. Instead of developing its own <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techopedia.com\/definition\/34633\/generative-ai\">generative AI<\/a> models in-house, it partnered up with Google and integrated Google&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techopedia.com\/everything-we-know-about-google-gemini\">Gemini AI<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But how much of this is buzzwords, and how much of this will really change how we use our smartphones? How will other smartphone manufacturers react to Samsung taking a big step into AI?<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s dive into the tech and what this means for the industry.<\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"the_ai_tech_behind_the_new_samsung_phones\">The AI Tech Behind the New Samsung Phones<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>As Techopedia reported back in December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.techopedia.com\/google-gemini-goes-live-heres-what-to-expect\">Google&#8217;s powerful Gemini AI comes in three versions<\/a>:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ultra \u2014 the most powerful model targeting mostly developers<\/li>\n<li>Gemini Pro \u2014 currently integrated with the famous Bard Google chatbot<\/li>\n<li>Gemini Nano \u2014 a lightweight version developed for mobile devices<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Samsung said it is using all three of these Gemini models, as well as Google&#8217;s Imagen 2, an upgraded text-to-image tool.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung proudly claimed that they are one of the first customers to test Gemini Ultra. Additionally, the company explained that the new S24 series also runs on-device Gemini Nano integrated into the Android 14 OS. Samsung also claims to be the first Google Cloud partner to deploy Gemini Pro on Google&#8217;s Vertex AI to drive security, safety, privacy, and data compliance.<\/p>\n<p>Samsung Galaxy S24 users can access AI-powered Samsung native applications such as the new Notes, Voice Recorder, and Keyboard. For enhanced photo-editing capabilities available through the new Generative Edit2, the company uses Imagen 2.\u00a0<b><\/b><\/p>\n<h2><span id=\"are_the_new_samsung_ai_features_new\">Are the New Samsung AI Features &#8220;New&#8221;?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The new Samsung AI features give us a glimpse of the near future of AI in smartphone devices. As expected, AI is not being used to develop &#8220;never-seen-before&#8221; smartphone applications but rather to enhance and augment known features and their capacities.<\/p>\n<p>For example, Samsung&#8217;s new Live Translate uses AI to provide users with two-way, real-time voice and text translations of phone calls.
