As promised, Apple has made public beta versions of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia available to download for members of its free testing program.
The software also includes watchOS 11 and tvOS 18 betas, and comes just after the third developer beta for the new platforms.
The iPhone, iPad, and Mac betas don’t yet include Apple Intelligence, which won’t be available in beta until the fall. However, they do include many of the other tentpole features promised at WWDC in June.
The iOS 18 public beta offers a more customizable home screen that finally allows spaces between app icons as well as personalized colors. You can also personalize the lock screen shortcuts, and Control Center is now a multi-page environment that will support third-party features.
The Photos app has been redesigned to help highlight your pictures. Messages now supports enhanced RCS chats along with scheduled texting, text effects, and satellite conversations on newer iPhones. Safari can summarize websites, and there’s now a dedicated Passwords app to help manage sign-ins.
iPadOS 18 offers many of the same features, but adds a long-requested calculator app with a Math Notes feature that can solve handwritten equations. You’ll also find handwriting recognition that clarifies and corrects your work.
The macOS Sequoia public beta notably adds iPhone Mirroring to control your handset from your Mac, even while the phone is locked. There’s now more intuitive window tiling, and you’ll get the non-cellular upgrades from the iPhone and iPad updates.
WatchOS 11 introduces a Vitals app to provide a rundown of your health statistics, including your heart rate and sleep levels. Smart Stack can better recommend actions, including new translation and Shazam widgets. In fitness, you can now pause your activity ring and factor in new details like your training load.
The tvOS 18 beta mainly adds an Amazon X-ray style InSight feature that can show casting and other details for Apple TV+ shows. It can also boost dialogue clairty and support very wide 21:9 displays.
The finished versions of all these upgrades are expected to arrive in the fall, most likely in September or October.
