Apple Intelligence features will likely be stretched out into next year, with developers gaining access late this summer.
New launches won’t be part of beta releases of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.
Apple is taking a cautious approach to Intelligence rollout across its devices.
Apple is set to take its time over the launch of its new Intelligence features, with the full rollout expected over several months into 2025.
The new venture was a headline attraction at last week’s WWDC 2024. Now, more information has been made available on what developers and consumers can expect to follow.
As detailed by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the Cupertino-based tech giant is seeking to steer clear of the mistakes and setbacks experienced by other AI systems, which have perhaps been pushed out too soon. It also wants to ensure its devices such as the Vision Pro and new iPad Pro are ready and fully equipped to embrace the new features.
Apple’s decision to take a gradual approach means developers will be able to test the updates in the coming weeks, but it will be too late for the first beta releases of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia. A further warning has emanated from Apple to advise that when the features are made available, it will not be a fully developed service but more of a preview of what will arrive later.
The first version of the Intelligence features will only be made available to a select range of Apple devices and only in American English.
WWDC 2024: Highlights
At WWDC last week, a keynote presentation set out an effective roadmap of what is expected from the company over the next 12 months. However, it did not provide a detailed breakdown of the exact qualities to be delivered in the Intelligence rollout.
This represents a change in tack for the company, as previously, it would often introduce a key, new offering that would later be impacted by feature delays or pushbacks to new updates. This time, it appears only to be made available once Apple is confident the software and support are in place to let the features flourish. The company has made clear it will not be bound by a set timescale for this particular launch.
