Android cross-device services have started rolling out to Android smartphones and tablets running Android 11 or later.
Google first announced cross-device services in May, so we’ve been waiting on the rollout.
So far, there are two new features: Call Casting and Internet Sharing. Call Casting lets users cast video calls from one device to another, while Internet Sharing allows connected devices to share internet access.
Though most devices running Android 11 or later can access Android cross-device services, Android Go devices are exempt, and Internet Sharing won’t be available on Samsung devices. These devices can use the existing Auto Hotspot feature to share internet access.
In order to access the new features, cross-device services needs to be enabled. Once it’s switched on for multiple devices and the devices are placed near to one another, they can detect each other and allow switching of apps or tasks between the devices.
How to Turn on Cross-Device Services
To turn on cross-device services, first ensure that all devices have Bluetooth enabled and that they are all signed into the same Google account. Then, follow the below steps.
- Open Settings.
- Tap Google > Services and Sharing > Cross-device Services.
- Ensure Cross-device Services is on.
- Repeat steps 1 to 3 for each of your devices.
Also make sure to check that each of the features you want to use is turned on.
Android users will “get new cross-device features as soon as they’re released,” according to Google.
