What Does Print Job Mean?

A print job, in computing, refers to a file or a set of files ready to be printed. Usually, a print job is given a unique identification number by the system and includes other information such as the size of the printed media, priority, number of copies to be printed, etc.

A print job makes it easy for a printer and a system to exchange data and files to be printed. The system may save a print job in a queue waiting to be printed and keeps record of its identification number. In the case of a computer using a network printer, a print job may have to go through a centralized print server before it goes to the designated printer. A printer may have local storage where print jobs can be stored and kept in queue, waiting for printing.
