What Does Drop Amplifier Mean?
A drop amplifier is an amplifier that is used by cable companies to amplify weak TV signals. These amplifiers
are used to boost the quality of TV signals by helping in overcoming the losses
caused by other neighboring signals and devices.
Techopedia Explains Drop Amplifier
In the business of cable television, cables run to the customers’
homes from a utility pole or via a pedestal. A pedestal is the place where a cable company distribution box is installed where the cables are distributed for a
group of homes. The connection between this box to the home is called a
drop. These drops generally suffer weakened signals, and thus cable companies install
a drop amplifier to strengthen the signals. Drop amplifiers are generally available
in four models – with one, two, four or eight ports.
