Your Meta Quest is getting a new software update, v68, and it’s coming with a new app called Layout that lets you visualize real-world items in your physical space.
Nothing is worse than buying furniture for your house only to realize it’s way too big for your room. To help you avoid such situations, you can use this app to measure an item in your space or virtually move an item to a different location to see how it looks there.
You can also expand or shrink the size of an object. So, if you’re unsure what TV size would fit your room, you can use the Layout app to create a virtual TV on your wall and adjust its size to find the perfect fit. Furthermore, you can use the app as a leveler. If you’re hanging a picture frame, you can use the Layout app to make sure it’s perfectly straight.
Other Changes Coming With the v68 Software Update
In addition to the Layout app, the v68 software update for Meta Quest also introduces the simultaneous downloads feature. You can now download multiple games and apps at once. Plus, you’ll see two new tabs in the Library — Downloads and All. You can view and manage your downloaded apps and games in the Downloads tab. In the All tab, you’ll find all your installed apps.
Another new feature coming with the software update, exclusive to the Quest 3, is Content Adaptive Brightness Control. This feature reduces contrast in darker scenes, giving you a better display experience. You can control it in the Experimental section of Settings.
After this update, you’ll notice reduced latency and less stuttering in OpenXR apps as the update is improving the frame timing algorithm on Meta Quest. Along with these improvements and changes, the update also includes an audio low battery alert and increases the screenshot resolution on Quest 3 from 1,440 x 1,440 to 2,160 x 2,160.
While other companies have created apps like Layout to visualize items in your physical space — IKEA’s IKEA Place is a good example — none of these apps came with an operating system. That’s why Meta deserves credit for it.
Meta has started rolling out the v68 update today, July 29th, so you can expect it to arrive on your Meta Quest 3, Meta Quest Pro, or Meta Quest 2 headset soon.
