At WWDC, Apple finally showcased Apple Intelligence which is the company’s take on generative AI features that run on-device.
Apple further emphasized that its new AI assistant will take advantage of the A17 Pro and its M series of chips, to run on your devices, locally, without giving any of your data to Apple.
The Cupertino company promised a host of new features, out of which some would be available at launch and others would be rolled out in due course. This was when Apple was expected to release its AI Intelligence as part of the public release of its new software updates in September. But now it seems that the launch of the AI assistant may get delayed.?
NEW: Apple Intelligence will arrive later than anticipated, coming in iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 in October and missing the initial September releases. Still, 18.1 will go into beta for developers this week. https://t.co/LqXDvjO6ef

When Is Apple Intelligence Expected to Launch?
As Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports, Apple Intelligence may not be releasing next month as previously planned. Instead, Apple is planning to release the AI-powered features as part of an update scheduled for October.
If this indeed turns out to be true, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia would arrive with everything that was promised at WWDC 2024 except Apple Intelligence.?
Early Access for Developers
The Cupertino company is expected to roll out Apple Intelligence to developers this week through iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas. This early access will allow the company to gather feedback and address potential bugs before the broader consumer launch.
What Features Will Apple Intelligence Bring?
Apple Intelligence is an AI system, designed to streamline tasks while maintaining privacy. It makes use of large language models (LLMs) to perform tasks such as summarizing notifications, creating personalized content like “Genmoji” icons, and handling requests such as playing specific podcasts.
The system is capable of proficient understanding of personal context, like identifying communication patterns, all while processing data locally on A17 Pro and M-series chips. Apple Intelligence also integrates with external AI models, like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, for an improved user experience.
