Nothing will reveal its first affordable smartphone, the CMF Phone 1, on July 8. It features a customizable rear panel and a versatile dial for accessories.

Customization and Features
Unlike the light-up glyphs on the Nothing Phone 1 and Phone 2, the CMF Phone 1 focuses on practical customizability. A short video teaser shows a rotating dial on the back of the phone, similar to the aluminum alloy dial on the CMF Buds, allowing for easy lanyard attachment. This dial can be unscrewed and replaced with other accessories, such as a lanyard mount or a folding kickstand.
While details remain sparse, there is speculation that the dial might offer additional functionalities akin to the smart dial on the CMF Neckband Pro headphones, which controls volume, playback, and noise cancellation.
Swappable Rear Panels
Previous teasers from Nothing revealed images of the back of the CMF Phone 1, highlighting easily accessible screws and a tiny screwdriver. The latest update confirms that the rear panel is removable and comes in various color options, including black, blue, light green, and orange.

The customizable rear panel raises questions about potential enhancements. There is speculation that future panels might include features such as an extended battery, similar to the Mophie Juice Pack, or a wallet for holding credit cards and IDs. However, it remains unclear if these panels will provide easier access to the phone’s internal components, such as the battery.
Upcoming Nothing Launch Event
In addition to the CMF Phone 1, Nothing plans to debut the CMF Buds Pro 2 and Watch Pro 2 at its “Community Update” event on July 8 at 5 AM ET. This event will provide further insights into the new products and their features.
